Meditation Boutique- Mala Beads- Mala beads are a meditation tool that many use to stay focused and keep count of mantras during a meditation practice. Mala beads are typically made up of 108 beads, a guru bead and a tassel.

To experience the benefits of meditation, you have to fall in love with your practice.

That's why it's important to experiment with different meditation techniques to see which ones resonate best with you.

One of our favourite ways to meditate is a technique called Mantra Meditation. It is a type of mindfulness meditation based on buddhist tradition that uses traditional mala beads and mantra repetition to help focus the mind.

What Are Mala Beads?

Traditional mala beads, or prayer beads, are tools used to keep track of mantra repetition during a meditation practice.

They are typically made up of 108 beads, a larger bead called a head bead or a guru bead and a tassel.

How to Meditate with Mala Beads

  1. Find a quiet spot for your meditation practice.
  2. Pick a meditation mantra or affirmation. You can pick your mantra by looking inwards to see what you might need that day, or you can pick a mantra from an external source.
  3. Once you are ready to start, hold your meditation mala in your right hand, with the beads resting on your middle finger.
  4. Starting at the top of the mala, place your thumb on the first bead. Inhale deeply, and as you exhale, recite your mantra. Once you have fully exhaled, use your thumb to move to the next bead.
  5. Repeat this process 108 times, until you reach the guru bead.
  6. Once you are finished, close your meditation session by thanking yourself for taking the time to prioritize your wellness.

Bonus step: Many people choose to wear their mala throughout the day as a visual reminder of their affirmation, either a mala necklace or wrapped around their wrist as a mala bracelet.

How To Choose A Meditation Mala

Mala beads can be made with a variety of different materials.

Our mala beads are made with individually knotted gemstones. Different gemstones have different healing properties and can therefore help manifest different intentions.

One way of choosing a mala bead is based on the healing properties of the gemstones the mala is made with.

However, there is no right or wrong way to choose a mala, in fact, sometimes the best way to choose your mala is to simply pick the one that you are most drawn to.
